Pirates

It looks a sure bet that the Japanese Imperial Navy will make steam for the Horn of Africa. Again the current constitution has been reinterpreted to allow the forces to join the War on Piracy. In the meantime, Kento has been practising the parts. He’s eager to get outside, irrespective of what can be fashioned from newspaper, card and rubbish.
Malt’s Snow White

A beer with creamy foam like a white snow. Let’s enjoy the soft and smooth touch!
Brewer Suntory
Style Pilsener
Seasonal special with 25% extra head. Perhaps I had a little grease on my lips as the head was gone after a few sips. Nothing extra special about this. If only it was 25% cheaper…
Mouse in the house

Due to the weather, a couple of mice have come in from the cold. I’m not sure where they have got in from. There doesn’t seem to be many at any rate. I guess through lack of food. Ritsue’s daily cleaning ritual removes any trace of someone’s bad snacking habit. Still, a few vile mini-salamis were found under the television. Continue reading
The girls are back

The girls stay in the clinic came yesterday to an end. Instead of staying, I made two or three visits each day. Over the standard stay of four nights, changes in them both are clear. Ritsue seems disappointed that she hadn’t lost much weight after the birth. The bump appears to have moved upwards and split in two. Maya’s nappy contents shifted from the bitumen-like meconium to mustard yellow (or yellow mustard). Every event had a touch of déjà vu. There was even a brief question over bilirubin levels. Last night was different. I had an excellent night’s sleep. Kento slept like a log and apparently Maya only woke three times.
Second baby born

It has been a long day. The ’show’ started yesterday morning around 3:00. After a lot of stopping and starting, it wasn’t until just before 2:00 this morning, that Ritsue went in to labour. That stage only lasted ten minutes. She delivered a little baby girl we have named 茉耶 (Maya).
Despite not being much bigger than Kento, we were able to spend a couple of hours together after the clean-up. We spent most of the day together, with Kento making an appearance in the morning.
Snow and ice

There has been snow about for a good week. Not so heavy today. The local news reported a couple of inches (a number of centimetres) in the city and a couple of metres up on the nearby mountain. Further to the east, the report featured polytunnels stripped and contorted following a recent flurry. Pretty much everything here in the garden is completely covered. At the end of a visit to the clinic yesterday, the doctor said the baby has yet to move down. Rather than the earlier expected arrival, it could be after the snow and ice has gone. This I hope will give my wife one less thing to be anxious about.
Copper tubing

In addition to feeling an independence curb, another big frustration out here is the inability to buy things I consider as ordinary. Although the city is five times larger than my home town, good bread, cheese and English books are nigh on impossible to source. An afternoon was wasted; cycling around to find that copper tubing is in the same category as baked beans and pies.
Although I was loath to do so, I’ve just ordered a short coil off eBay. I hope getting hold of materials for future science ventures will be easier.
