A new hope

The red team wins the election. Minshutō (DPJ) has unseated Jimintō (LDP), gaining toward three times the seats of the incumbent. The change brings an end to an almost unbroken half century reign. It also signals a real change in voters attitude; content to choose the untested in the direst of times. As a result, Taro Aso resigns as party president.

Red is a bit strong for the DPJ ne? I was a bit disappointed that even in the excitement(presumably though you’d never know it from the glum expressions)of election night the new PM was still refusing to say anything about anything by the time I went to bed – plus ca change. Sometimes i wonder did these guys actually volunteer to be politicians or did someone put a gun to their head?
Nice peppers by the way – mine were about the only thing that grew well, though they weren’t hot and a bit tough-skinned – I couldn’t read the label when i bought the seedlings so I suppose they probably weren’t meant to be spicy.

I was shocked that the みんなの党 (Your Party (although I think ‘everyone’s party’ is a better name)) came away with 5 seats. It was only founded 24 days ago!
Think the commies got something like 9 seats…

Don’t know anything about Your Party. Not sure how みんな everyone becomes your, guess it’s the meaning? Wonder if it has some common themes to New Party Sakigake; the candidates almost certain of their seat.
National debt almost twice the GDP might take some time to work out.
