ASUS EAH4870 another dead fan

Three months have passed since I received my replacement graphics card. The fan on the first stopped spinning after a week causing the card to overheat. Despite an assurance from the manufacturer’s technical support, the same fate has befallen the successor. Reading similar stories elsewhere, there clearly is a problem with the particular model I have and I would hope a recall. The card is covered by a three year warranty. I’m hopeful that they’ll do better than a repair. I guess if it a same model replacement or repair, then I’ll have to buy an after market cooler. Arctic Cooling do a passive cooler.

    My condolences.
Don’t worry, though, you’re not the only one. I am currently sending back my second model (this one managed to work for three months, the last one died after two), and I am exchanging mails with a guy that bought the same computer I did – he’s currently using the third ASUS EAH 4870.

I guess I was lucky to be able to exchange it for one from another manufacturer. I would have hoped by now they would have recalled the cards or in the least come up with a fair solution.

Don’t defrag your computer unless you’ve taken a backup.
