It would appear that Dell are not going to offer a satisfactory solution to address the many problems I have encountered since purchasing one of their high-end laptops. At the start of the month, I ordered the components to build a desktop which I hoped to reduce the risk of future troubles.
A week after assembling the new system it shut off in the middle of defragmenting the hard drive.
Restarting the found that all the files were lost and that the fan was no longer spinning on the graphics card.
It took the manufacturer over three days to send a email suggesting to “take out your graphic card, try to clean it with a rubber, and then reseat it back tightly” whatever that means “and if it doesn’t work return it to the supplier”.
I was glad I had already skipped to the second suggestion, being a little discouraged my points were glossed over. I suppose I can consider myself fortunate as this happened so soon; the supplier will replace any faulty parts in the first 14 days. The replacement took a week to turn around. I’ll read that other people are having similar issues (some repeatedly) with their Glaciator fansink and a repair takes about a month. The manufacturer denies there’s a problem and assures me not to worry. I feel a sense of deja-vu and wonder what hoodoo is at work.
