adekun’s japan blog

Enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of first-time parenthood. Progress on the organic vegetable garden and other ramblings of a gaijin in Japan’s least populous prefecture.

CSS tomfoolery

Originally the site was running a small CMS I knocked together with Simple PHP Blog handling the blog. The latter got moved over to Blogger and more recently Wordpress. Last month the remainder was shoehorned into WP. With the one style sheet there is one less reason against tinkering.
I’m short on ideas as to how to combine growing vegetables and Japan into a theme. I hope this latest incarnation will suffice as it will no doubt be changed again – at some point. The plan was (and still is) to bring in some lacking features, update the appearance (sans rounded corners) while retaining a good degree of compatibility between browsers.
The scene at the top is from Mount Daisen looking towards the house. On the left is Lake Shinjiko and right the Sea of Japan. The silhouette pretty much dictated the black and grey, but I’m unsettled on it. I think it’s a bit drab? :?

    Hi Adekun,
    Nice photo from Daisen.
I went snowboarding there last January and will most likely return next January. Daisen is a beautiful place.
My wife is from Okayama so we try and arrange visits with a excursion somewhere that we can do some snowboarding. Coming from Brisbane, Australia it’s nice to experience a real winter.
I have been reading your site via rss feeds for a while now as I am interested in living in Japan and am keen on growing veggies or more particularly fruit trees.

Fruit trees would be great given the price in the supermarkets, even so it will take the MIL some convincing. I guess your wife coming from Okayama might keep you from Hokkaidō. I’m still hoping to stay on a dairy farm around Tsuyama. As yet to stop in Okayama-ken - usually pass through on the way to Kansai. Not too far from Daisen is Sanbutsuji - January probably isn’t the best month to visit.
