Soy bean ruin

Written by: adekun on 5 October, 2008 10:02 pm - Filed under: blog ?

I’ve found a chore that far surpasses the tedium of weeding. For some time, is has been apparent that the soy beans were riddled with holes and unlikely to produce much of a crop. Instead of harvesting them early for edamame, I hoped to leave them and harvest daizu. Rather than wait and see, I decided to ‘cut’ my loses. Each pod seemed only to hold disappointment; a vivid green caterpillar or black purée. Having spent hours on two thirds of them, two dozen daizu and a small tray of rubbery beans were the product. Anyway, I’ve learnt something, and the compost will receive a power boost, and the ground has the nitrogenous roots. Just need some ideas as what to do with them as they are between uses.

    Adekun,
I’m not quite sure how to help you out with your current problem..its sounds frustrating!

I remember planting a garden when I was a child and it seemed like I had hundreds of pea plants, but when I took them all out of their pods, I ended up with one measly bowl of peas. A lot of work for little output.

Anyway, I found this great post on all of the uses of soybeans; perhaps it will be of good use to you! Cheers!

I think I may just end up boiling what I have. Despite the toil and tedium, I should give it another try. I’d love to make miso or tofu but you need the right tools. Ideas such as the above are helpful. Getting an old ice cream churn is something I want…
