Tainted Rice

Recently stories have been surfacing over tainted rice that has ended up in the food chain. Unsurprisingly, this did not happen by accident, but in the name of profit (as is the custom). The rice is said to have been imported from China and Vietnam amongst others. Contaminated with pesticides and a toxic mould, the rice was destined for industrial use. Instead an increasing trail of hundreds of companies has emerged; covering brewing, food stuffs, the elderly and schoolchildren. Tainted rice poisons Japan’s sake celebrations.
This has been happening for the past ten years. The Ministry of Agriculture knew about this back in January 2007. The recently appointed Minister for the department remarked “No one would die from eating tainted rice and that no fuss was necessary.” He’s the same person who quipped “At least gang rapists are still vigorous. Isn’t that at least a little closer to normal.” He has since tendered his resignation. Japan minister quits in rice row. The law required inspections to be by appointment only; allowing criminal activities to be concealed.
This latest food revelation comes after the huge uproar caused by Chinese produced gyōza with higher than permitted levels of the same pesticide. It is also at a time when the government is trying to get people to eat more rice.

Hadn’t heard about the tainted rice, though at the moment the Chinese baby milk scandal is big. but horrified by the comments of the Minister. At least he’s resigned. But how sad that he resigned over the comment on rice and not on rape….

Thanks for giving us a closer look at what is going on over there. With this rice and now the baby formula, I don’t know what’s next. Eating local is always the key for many, but don’t stop to think about where the little things come from like milk, butter, oil, rice, etc. It’s hard to eat as local as you say you do. This just gives all the more reason to pay attention to where our food comes from.

I think what is really sad about the comments, is that this is how they think rather than it being a gaffe or bushism.
What makes me angry is that these politicians have so much control of people. An example is compulsory school meals. The children get fed with toxic rice was bought for glue making.
The Chinese milk troubles have spilt over to Japan. Yesterday some deserts were recalled.

This is evil, it sounds like many people should be arrested. They would be in the United States, no matter who is President. Clinton, Bush, McCain or Obama.
