Christmas has come early and a good job too, since everybody is at work on the big day. We had kani shabu-shabu (crabs dipped in boiling water) for dinner. Afterwards a typical Japanese Christmas cake. A sponge cake with lots and lots of cream.

I’m sorry it was bought from a shop. What seems most popular here are sponge cakes covered in a lot of cream with strawberries. I think the only difference here is the addition of Santa Claus, the chocolate sign etc. The cake is two layers of light sponge, sandwiching more cream.
It tasted fine if a little sweet and not what I would call a Christmas cake.
