Bum shaped tomato

Bum shaped tomato

On Friday we had a heavy downpour which is worth noting for my own benefit. With the ground being damp the crows returned to dig up more peanuts. Not much going on elsewhere in the garden. The unruly sweet potato vines should be clipped; there’s a chance they will turn out all vine and no tuber. I did spot a tomato (maybe it’s two) that looks arse shaped. Holding it in my hand it really looks like two tomatoes stuck together.

I like crazy shaped tomatoes, very beautiful. I get so sick of all homogenized veggies in the grocery store. Bring on the unique home-grown, not so perfect, but healthy & tastier homegrown veggies!

Before I came over to live here, one of the big UK supermarket chains started to advertise odd shaped mushrooms, pointing out it doesn’t matter if it’s going in a pie. Here in the shops, everything has to be perfect, perhaps with all the price rises attitudes will change.

You can eat the sweet potato leaves & vines. They are tasty!!! Make a fish stew with them. Good for you too.

I’ll post a recipe sometime to show what’s done with them here. Perhaps you can do the same? I know people in the UK are keen to grow sweet potatoes and it would make a good tip to share.
