…And Peanuts for All

At the beginning of the month, the peanuts were lifted and left to dry in the sun. Toward the end of this period there was a lot less sun, so they were given a bit longer; I found that a previous sample batch came out soft even after half an hour at 200°C.

The night before they were due for collecting it chucked it down. They had already endured nibbling whilst in and out of the ground and were not in the best of condition. After brushing over the sand, a portion got roasted in the oven. There were overdone, but at least everybody said they were good. Without any salt they had a stronger flavour than any I’d eaten before.
Yesterday was a turning point in the weather. It was really cold throughout the day. Late afternoon there were a few rumblings, signally the arrival of snow which came a little later.
