I've recently been told garlic needs nine months. Previous October plantings have been on the small size when pulled in early June (eight months).
I think if you are putting your house on the market in the Spring then it is worth it, otherwise it will probably be too early.

Today is Sept 9 2008 - and I'm in Colorado. Would you happen to know if it's too late to plant garlic? We will be selling our house in the Spring so it would need to be dug up by then. Thanks. Vikki at www.thorntonwilliamsfamily.blogspot.com

Thanks the two of you for dropping by.
I think since the Aomori garlic is from the north it may need a cold winter to spilt. That may also be a valid point to consider if you try growing some indoors.

I shouldn't be surprised over the variety of garlics, you can't grow any vegetable without discovering that there are at least ten heirloom and five conventional sorts. For my own part I haven't dared to try growing it 'for real' - I only use the garlic leaves from potted leftover cloves.

And on another note; you should be completely safe from vampires ;)
