Summer fungi

There has been quite a lot of rain fall recently. Weeds are running rampant despite weekly culls. The odd day of sunshine offers a chance make things a little more orderly.
Several mushrooms have popped up. It would be nice to know what they are. No doubt they are common; somebody will know. The second has a strong mushroomy smell and appears to be more Agaricus than Amanita.
Shiitake

One of the most popular of gourmet mushrooms. The first Shiitake were said to have been cultivated over a thousand years ago.

Normally the fungus will fruit in the spring and in the autumn. It can be forced by submersion in cold water for 24-48 hours.
All being well, the log should fruit about a week after the soak. Forcing it too often will stress the mycelium.
It can be done every two months, the spawn should recover after the flush.

I was told the garden was no good for mushrooms. Armed with a Paul Stamets book, I set out to prove a point.
Although it took about half a year, I’ve finally grown a Shiitake. Got a further two and a half before the log stopped fruiting.
